One of the primary reasons that people invest in fencing for their homes and businesses is that they want to keep people off their property. A short fence that is easy to climb won’t keep people out of your property or protect your things. There are many options for fences, including anti-climb toppers that can help keep people out (or in, for that matter). Making your anti-climb fence fit your needs is the job of any good fence contractor, so read on for more information about these options.
Razor Tape or Barbed Wire
These are the most common options for commercial uses, for anything from security fences to livestock fencing. The barbed or razor wire is a visual deterrent for people, since they can see it on top of the fence and know that it will hurt if they try to go over it. It doesn’t make for a very nice decorative fence, but that is often at the bottom of the list in most commercial cases. It also won’t necessarily stop all intruders, especially if they come equipped with wire cutters and a ladder, but it will block most random intruders.
Timber Trellis
The timber trellis is an interesting choice if your fence needs to still be decorative—for instance, around the outdoor eating area of a restaurant. This fence design uses a trellis on top of a wooden fence, and the trellis is used to support thorny vines. Ideally, these would be high enough up that the average person doesn’t touch them accidentally, but they still will deter someone from purposefully climbing the fence. If you don’t want to invest in a full trellis, guide wires across the top might also work if you train the vines to grow along them.
Spikes
Some types of fences, especially metal or wrought iron ones, can be easily equipped with spikes that can help prevent climbing. Usually, these spikes are metal, and they are fairly long and sharp. These spikes are designed to be part of the aesthetic of a beautiful metal fence and still be highly functional. If the aesthetics of your fence are important to your business image or brand, this could be another good choice.
