Are There Steps Near Your Fence?
We don’t mean literal steps leading up to your fence—we’re talking about stacked items or close-together items that could be used as steps up to the fence. Items that are very close to your fence can become launching pads for your dog to get into the next yard, so take care to remove boxes, trash cans, bicycles, and anything else significantly off of the ground.
Is There Space Underneath Your Fence?
Pets are very resourceful. If there is any space beneath your fence or an area for them to dig away at over time, they could slip out underneath your fence without you realizing. Use strategic landscaping and hardscaping to discourage digging or extend your fence significantly below the ground. If you have a sloped yard, consider using a contoured fence instead of a stepped fence for greater safety.
