Do you have a chain link fence? If you do, great! You might be wondering how to keep it looking brand new. Here is some advice on how to do that.
Clean It
First of all, there might be some dust on your fence – or as spring approaches, more and more pollen. Pollen is especially a problem during spring and summer, so be prepared for that as winter comes to an end. If your chain link fence has been neglected and you notice it’s become a home for spiders, don’t panic and run away. Grab a broom and knock the dust and cobwebs off of it. You can also do this to get rid of fallen leaves and grass cuttings that have collected around it.
In some cases, your chain link fence will need more cleaning than that. If your fence is crusted with dirt, then you will need to use your hose to clean it up. Direct water pressure should make a difference, and if it doesn’t, try using some soap or detergent. Put on some gloves so that you can protect your hands, especially if the soap method doesn’t work and you need to resort to chemical cleaning solutions instead.
Get Rid of Rust
The next problem you will need to deal with is rust. If you need to, you can call Hercules Fence of Northern Virginia, and we can break down an old, rusty chain link fence. This is especially useful if you don’t know how to do it on your own. However, putting on gloves and scrubbing away the rust with steel wool can help if the rust problem isn’t too serious.
Add Some Oil
Our last piece of advice is to add some oil to your chain link fence. When you apply a new coat of oil, you restore some shine to the fence. Plus, you can make sure the hinges on any gates will open and close smoothly. Also be sure to oil the latches, joints, and springs, especially if some parts of your fence are made of wood and vinyl and it isn’t one unbroken line of chain link.
