A chain-link fence is an excellent option for home security because of its superior durability. Steel fences certainly stand the test of time, but they are also vulnerable to their own integrity problems. The material can require some finesse and expertise, so it’s usually best to give us a call when you see something wrong. This post will name some issues that show up after a while in a chain-link fence, and what we can do to fix them.
Corrosion & Rust
Rust should never be underestimated in its destructive power. A tiny red spot will only grow and make a steel fence weaker by the day. The best thing to do is prevent corroding and rusting before it starts. Doing this yourself means keeping up with a basic cleaning schedule to remove small rust spots with tools like wire brushes and sandpaper. For more extensive maintenance, you’ll most likely need to spray paint the fence to protect the galvanization. If your fence doesn’t have one already, you can also add a protective vinyl coating.
Drooping
A drooping chain-link fence is definitely an eye-sore, and it won’t give you the same security as one that properly sits up. Your best bet to solve this is to call the professionals to come and assess the extent of the warping and recommend a course of action. We will most likely repair the existing fence posts and add more supports. We may also attach brand new chain-link. To prevent drooping in the first place, be diligent about keeping kids and pets off of the fence.
Weak Wiring
We attach chain-link to fence posts using tension wires. If those wires become bent out of their original shape, the chain-link will come off the posts. This is not such an easy fix, so it’s best to call us to come to remedy the problem. We’ll take the time and care to expertly reinforce these bonds so that they’ll last.
