Spring cleaning extends outside your home. Making sure that your fence is clean can help boost your curb appeal, especially if you are planning on selling your home later this year. However, typically this involves a power washer and some other tools. Here are some tips for how to do it without needing that power washer.
Prepare Everything Around It
Make sure you protect other parts of your yard and landscape. To do this, some tarps or other coverings will be useful. Make sure that the bushes, flowers, plants, trees, and decorations won’t be drowned or damaged by too much time in the sun. Also, you will want to make a mixture of bleach and water. The bigger the bucket, the better off you’ll be. Be sure to put some soap into your container too. However, you will need to make sure that it won’t react badly to the bleach that has some chlorine in it.
Scrub a Dub Dub
Scrubbing the wood fences is the next step. If you don’t want to use a power washer, then you have to be willing to use some elbow grease. Putting in all this time and effort will be worth it once you have finished. Grab your scrub brush and attack the spots that are particularly stubborn. Still, no matter what else you do, you should always strive for caution. Your pets will want to wander through your yard, and your kids still need to spend time playing in the yard, either making up imaginary adventures in the sandbox or kicking around a soccer ball with the swingset frame used as the goal. Don’t expose them to the bleach because it could make them all ill.
Finishing Up
Now the time has come for you to finish up the entire project. Give the wood fences some time to dry on their own without touching them for a day or two. After that, find any bumps, bruises, or knots that need to be sanded down so they don’t affect the aesthetic appeal of your fence. Knock loose nails back in or replace them if they are too worn out. Repaint the fence and add another layer of stain if you can. Finally, get rid of mold, mildew, algae, and dirt that has been collecting on your fence all winter and spring long.
