When you get a new dog, move to a new home, or discard an old dog fence, you are going to need to invest in a new one. Keeping your dog safe is of paramount importance, but it’s nice to have an aesthetically pleasing fence as well. Today we’re going to be talking about how you can pick the right fence for your dog and home’s needs. Ready to find a dog fence that works? Let’s take a look.
A Dog fence needs to be sturdy.
Dogs are notorious for digging beneath fences and slipping out of small holes. You need to make sure that your fence can handle the wear and tear of your dog’s curiosity. Bigger dogs need sturdier fences than small dogs. A big dog can break through portions of wooden fencing, but they won’t be able to topple the power of vinyl. A vinyl fence will work for a larger dog as well because a larger animal won’t be able to slip through the posts.
Small dogs need a different type of fencing.
Small dogs are masters of slipping through the posts in fencing. Choose a fence with the posts side by side with little to no room in between the posts. An ornamental aluminum fence would work well for this. A wooden privacy fence would also do the job well.
What about invisible fences?
Invisible fences are not very effective at keeping dogs in the perimeter they are being restricted to. Dogs can get past the shocks of an invisible fence with enough determination. Not only that, but invisible fences can frighten dogs and teach them that being outside isn’t very fun. A physical fence is much more effective and it’s much more dog friendly.
