As spring turns to summer, it’s almost time to start using your pool every day. Cooling off sounds great, especially on super hot days. But you need to keep a fence around your pool, and here’s why.
Design Suggestions
Make sure that your new fence is at least five feet high. This suggestion hinges upon the rules and regulations that your community has in place, but you want to make sure it isn’t too low. By doing this, you can discourage kids and pets from climbing up over the fence to see what’s on the other side or to go splash around when you can’t be there to watch them. Chain link fences don’t make for ideal pool fences, since it’s easy to grab the links and climb up and over. Also, the bottom of the fence needs to be closer to the ground so no one can crawl underneath it, either. This space should be at most four inches high.
What Materials Do You Need?
You can use wood and vinyl around a pool, but these aren’t the best idea. The exposure to water will cause them to break down over time. So what you should do instead is use ornamental iron as the material for your new pool fence.
Add Gates
Adding gates to your pool fence can make it easier to get in and out of the poolside area. Make sure that the gates can be locked, and that the locks aren’t neglected. The latches for the gates should close themselves, and not be positioned in spots where your children can reach them. That said, make sure the gates and latches have a key so you can unlock whenever the situation calls for it.
Add Alarms
Adding alarms is another layer of protection for everyone in your family. It will activate whenever a door close to the pool opens, even if you can’t hear any alarms placed outside closer to the pool itself.
